LAHORE: The eleventh Urs of Wasif Ali Wasif (a Sufi poet) started on Saturday on Bahawalpur Road.

The president of PICIC Commercial Bank inaugurated the ceremony by laying a floral wreath at Wasif Ali Wasif’s tomb. A Mehfil-e-Naat was also held under the supervision of Local Government and Rural Development Secretary Najeebullah Malik, while Member of the National Assembly Sardar Nasarullah Dreshak and Local Government Director General Colonel (r) Shahbaz were chief guests. A large number of people attended the ceremony and paid tribute to the great Sufi poet.

Wasif Ali Wasif was born on January 15, 1929 at Shah Pur Khushab. In 1949 he received an Award of Honor and on September 27, 1954, the West Pakistan Police Training certificate. He passed a Civil Service Examination in June 1954.

He wrote many books like Dil Darya Sumender,Kiran Kiran Soraj (later translated into The Remaining Soul), Haraf Haraf Haqiqat, Katra Katra Kulzum and Shab-e-Chiragh.

A seminar under the supervision of Justice (r) Zia Mehmood Mirza will also be held on Sunday (today) at Alhamrah Hall. Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan Niazi will be the stage secretary of the seminar. Income Tax Regional Commissioner Qudrat Ullah and Bano Qudsia, a prominent writer, will be the chief guests.

Mr Najeebullah Malik, Additional Education Secretary Dr Assadullah Baksh Malik and Mansoorur Rehman Khan Afridi will also address the seminar.Justice (r) Mian Nazeer Akhtar will participate in the concluding ceremony of the urs on Monday.
